Don't Mess With Us

South Africa, Phinda Game Reserve in northern KwaZulu-Natal borders the World Heritage Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park.  Momma and her juvenile Rhinoceros take a break from their grazing.  The massive, highly endangered rhino is the world's second largest mammal.  The word rhinoceros comes from the Greek rhino (nose) and ceros (horn). For ages, rhino horn has been used to treat illnesses, especially fevers. Yet like our fingernails and hair, rhino horn is made of keratin and has no healing properties. Rhinos are extremely bad-tempered and it is not unusual for them to charge at a human or cars.
